十三四岁的时候，在班里看了《怦然心动》这部电笑余影，当时我们大部分人觉得主角是Julie，故事是关于一个女孩子一眼就相中了一个男神然后勇敢追求真爱的故事。而令人费解的是，这部疑似鼓励早恋的电影竟然是班主任放给我们的。
当时我曾经有过一丝疑惑，觉得自己解读不了班主任的心意啊。
意思是暗示我们可以早恋？还是暗示我们想早恋先出国？
当然，由于课业重，需要应付的问题本来就不少，所以这两个在当时看来既不重要也不紧急的疑问就被少年的我迅速抛在了脑后。
成年后又邂逅了电影的同名小说，仔细读了读，才明白了为什么电影里的故事，是很好的成长教科书。
电影里的原话是这样的："Some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss. But every once in a while you find someone who's iridescent, and when you do, nothing will ever compare.”
这句话是小说里的原文，也是两个主人公共同经历的成长课。
一开始，两个少男少女都只懂得欣赏表面的美。
少女Julie 因为Bryce美丽的眼睛而感到怦然心动，于是用各种方式想方设法去闯入Bryce 的生命。
而在Bryce 眼里，Julie 的靠近，甚至有点疯狂。
原文这么说的：She didn't just barge into my life. She barged and shoved and wedged her way into my life.
她可不只是闯入了我的生活，她是千方百计非要在我的生活里占领一席之地不可。
在Bryce的眼里，Julie的家庭并不富裕，连草坪都是没有经过打理的，于是没什么值得喜欢的。
其实两个小孩子在这个阶段都恰到好处地只会欣赏外表，看不到里子是什么样的，但不巧的是，他们并不同渗升睁时拥有光鲜亮丽的外表。

当我们只当作自己是局中人的时候，还真的以为这是篇简单的关于初恋的故事。
其实跳出这本书，经过对写作背景简单的了解，我们可以发现这本书的作者文德琳·范·德拉安南（Wendelin Van Draanen）在成为作家之前，是一位高中老师，她见过很多的男孩女孩因为非常浅显 （ superficial ） 的原因喜欢别人，这也让她想起自己在那个年龄也是如此。而透过表象看本质 （ see beneath the surface ）， 是她花了那么长时间走了那么多弯路才学到的智慧。
所以跳出表面，跳出局部，我们会发现这是篇提醒少年人不被表象迷惑的教育故事。
尽管作者知道人年轻的时候或许并不愿意听取成年人的建议，但她还是把自己的人生智慧融入到小说里面Julie 爸爸，和Bryce爷爷的话语里面。
迷茫时期的Julie和Bryce，就像年轻时的她一样，会被表象所迷惑，被因为自己对局部的认知而忽略全部的风景。
但经过一番成长的挣扎，在身边长辈的耐心引导下，两个人都慢慢领悟到了 see beneath the surface 的道理。
Julie开始用理智审视自己的情感，当她发现Bryce 在当时的一些行为不那么美丽，她开始觉得Bryce的整体，并不大于他表面上某些美丽局部的总和，于是Julie开始调整自己对 Bryce的态度。
当Bryce欣赏到了Julie平凡外表下彩虹般绚丽的灵魂，感受到了Julie对自己态度的转变，他也开始重新审视自己的价值观，审视自己成长环境里面种种不美好的东西，也逐渐调整了自己待人接物的方法。
于是两个人在故事的结局里面，开始成为无话不谈的朋友，他们会聊很多很多，会抛开浅显的外表，去发现彼此灵魂深处的彩虹。
这是一个温柔作家给出的结局，也是一个有梦想的教书匠为青少年的成长所许下的美好愿望。
美好的作家总是这样温柔而坚定的，他们把对这世界的美好愿望种在自己的作品里面，就像结尾里Julie和Bryce种下的那颗梧桐树的种子。
尽管改变现实很难，但是就像很多教书匠一样，文德琳·范·德拉安南（Wendelin Van Draanen）很爱她的学生，于是她有信念，相信这颗种子会生根发芽，会长大，成为参天大树。
当读者们爬上了这棵树，会发现爬得越高，越能为眼前的风景所惊叹。
这就是书里Julie说的：The higher I got, the more amazed I was by the view.
